Photographer Documents 25 Years of American Civic Life

Photographer William Meyers' new book, "Civics," presents a 25-year visual record of New York City, focusing on the small, often unnoticed acts of civic engagement that sustain society. Shot in black and white, the collection highlights formal political processes, public service, volunteer work, protests, charitable acts, and neighborhood interactions. The book is described as a primer on citizenship and the "art of being an American," coinciding with the nation's 250th anniversary. Meyers, who turned to photography in the 1990s, has had his work exhibited internationally.
