Swinging Sixties Photographer Worked From South Africa

Sam Haskins, a photographer whose work significantly shaped the visual language of the 1960s Swinging Sixties, created influential photobooks like 'Five Girls' and 'Cowboy Kate' from his studio in Johannesburg, South Africa. Despite not being in London, he improvised by using non-professional models and building sets, achieving a natural quality in his images. Haskins also collaborated with camera maker Asahi Pentax and later experienced a resurgence in his career in his seventies, continuing to produce and exhibit work until his death in 2009.
