The EOS R5 brought 45-megapixel stills and 8K video to Canon’s RF system. Its launch also made recording limits part of the buying discussion: the highest-quality video modes placed greater demands on cooling than ordinary 4K recording.
Laing found the resolution and autofocus strong for stills. Testing also documented heat and recovery limits in 8K, 4K HQ and 4K/120p. The review includes later firmware testing, so its dated observations should be read alongside the camera’s firmware history.
